A Successful Festival Journey is more than just Submissions.
Submitting a film to a large number of festivals does not necessarily create a successful festival journey. The real value lies in submitting strategically—choosing the right opportunities, at the right time, with the right positioning.
Every film is different, and so should be its festival strategy. The process begins with identifying festivals that genuinely align with the film’s genre, subject, format, audience and objectives, rather than simply chasing submission numbers.
Equally important is prioritising opportunities and timing submissions carefully. Festival deadlines, eligibility periods and premiere requirements can influence where and when a film should be submitted. An early decision may sometimes affect eligibility for another important opportunity later.
The film must also be positioned appropriately—from understanding its distinctive strengths to presenting it effectively within the festival ecosystem. A well-planned festival journey considers not only individual submissions, but also how different opportunities can collectively contribute to the film’s visibility, recognition and larger journey.
And importantly, festival strategy should never be static. As selections, rejections, screenings and new opportunities emerge, the strategy may need to evolve.
Because a meaningful festival journey is not about being everywhere. It is about being at the right places, at the right time, for the right reasons.
